This study deals with the preparation of electrospun fibers of poly (lactic acid) (PLA)/expoxidized natural rubber (ENR) blends added with nanofillers using electrospinning technique.The electrospun PLA/ENR/nanofiller fibers were characterized by SEM. The effect of nanofiller addition on the thermal properties of PLA/ENR fibers was then studied using DSC and TGA techniques. The various ratios of 10 wt% PLA and 3 wt% ENR in chloroform solution with and without nanofillers (Si02 and Ti02 nanoparticles) were mixed and stirred homogeneously for 40 min before spinning. The SEM images showed that the nanocomposite fibers showed a porous morphology with a diameter ranged from 3-15 ym. From DSC results, all electrospun fibers exhibited a significant lower Tg than that of pure PLA (61 0C)cl] , implying the partial miscibility of the electrospun PLA/ENR fibers. Also, crystallization temperature ( Tc) was found in all blends fibers suggesting the enhancement of crystallization ability of PLA due to the presence of ENR. Thermal stability of most PLA/ENR blend fibers was slightly less than that of pure PLA fiberc2]. Interestingly, electrospun fibers of PLA/ENR (8 : 2) incorporating with 0. I wt% Si02 nanofiller exhibited a significant improvement in thermal stability. However, addition of Ti02 had no remarkable effect on thermal stability of the nanocomposites fibers. |
