Sb2S3 microcrystallites with a wealth of novel morphologies (patterns) have been prepared by a solvothermal reaction between antimony trisulfide and thiourea (thiosemicarbazide, thiocarbohydrate) at low temperature (140°C/150°C). The typical morphologies are feather-like, radioactive dendrite-like, prism-sphere-like, prickly sphere-like, flower-like and plate-sphere-like. Close inspections revealed that all these novel complicated patterns are composed of 1-D building blocks. It was found that reaction parameters, such as sulfur source, solvent, reaction temperature and time, play important roles in the morphology control of Sb2S3 microcrystallites.
