Photo accelerated oxidative degradation or accelerated weathering of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) composites containing different contents of TiO2 nano-particles was studied bu mechanical property monitoring. Fourier transform infrared microscopy (FTIR) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). The comparison of the photodegradation of the composites with that of blank iPP clearly illustrated that nano-particles of titanium dioxide in the iPP matrix exhibits a photocatalytic effect in the artificial accelerated weathering tests, and can be used as an effective photosensitizer. Both the speed of the photo oxidative degradatio nd the induction period of the iPP composites can be controlled to a certain degree by changing the cont nt of the photosensitizer. |
