Theatacticpoly(vinylalcohol)(a-PVA)aqueoussolutionswithNa2SO4orCH3COONawerecasttopreparefilmsandthentheNa2SO4orCH3COONainthefilmswasremoved.BothfilmspreparedbyremovingNa2SO4orCH3COONainwaterhadawater-resistanceproperty.ThedegreeofcrystallizationofthefilmsincreasedwithanincreaseofthecontentsofNa2SO4andCH3COONainthesolutionsupto0.05and0.1wt%,respectively.However,themeltingtemperature(226–228)wasindependento℃fthecontentofNa2SO4orCH3COONainthesolutions.ThedrawratioandYoung’smodulusofthefilmspreparedfromthesolutionswith0.01wt%Na2SO4and0.1wt%CH3COONawereabout1.6timesmorethanthatofthefilmsobtainedfromanaqueoussolution.Namely,incaseofthefilmsobtainedfroma-PVA/H2O/Na2SO4anda-PVA/H2O/CH3COONasystems,thedrawability,mechanicalpropertiesandthedegreeofcrystallizationwerehigherthanthoseofthefilmsobtainedfromanaqueousa-PVAsolutionwithoutthesalts.Moreover,layerstructurewasrecognizedinthecross-sectionoffilms.
