Electrospinningprovidesasimpleandversatilemethodforgeneratingultrathinfibersfromarichvarietyofmaterialsthatincludesyntheticandnaturalpolymers,polymeralloys,polymersloadedwithnanoparticles,andceramics.Thisreportpresentsanoverviewofthistechnique,withfocusontheprogressachievedbyusinrecentyears.Nanofiberswithcomplexarchitectures,suchasporousnanofibers,cable-likenanofibers,bio-inspirednanofibers,and2-demensionalnanofibers/nets,canbeproducedbyspecialelectrospinningmethods.Thediversepropertiesofthesenanofibers,basedondifferentphysical,chemical,optical,orbiologicalbehavior,meantheyareofinterestfordifferentapplicationsrangingfromsuper-hydrophobicmaterials,layer-by-layertemplatematerials,dye-sensitisedsolarcells,quartzcrystalmicrobalance-basedsensors,colorimetricsensors,filteringmaterials,andsoon.Althoughsomeoftheseapplicationsmaybestillremainedinthelaboratoryinthecurrentstage,plentyofsuccessfulexampleshaveprovedthatelectrospunnanofibershaveabrightfutureinavarietyofindustryfields. |
