We show that the “spindle-knots/joints” structures can only be fabricated under an optimized condition and the size of the spindle-knots is tuned to investigate its effect on the water collection ability of BASs. In our method (see Experimental Section and Supporting Information, Figure S1), a uniform nylon fi ber is fi rstly immersed into a
polymer solution, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) dissolved in N,N -dimethylformamide (DMF). After the fiber is drawn out horizontally by a dip-coater machine, a cylindrical PMMA film forms on the fi ber surface and spontaneously breaks up into polymer droplets owing to the Rayleigh instability. After
the evaporation of solvent, BASs are fabricated with periodic PMMA spindle-knots on the nylon fi bers.
