Anoveldisulfonatedpoly(p-phenylenebenzoxazole),DSPBO,waspreparedbypolycondensationof4,6-diaminoresorcinoldihydrochloride(DAR),terephthalicacid(TPA)anddisodium-2,2’-disulfonate-4,4’-dicarboxydiphenylether(SODBA)inpolyphosphoricacid(PPA).DSPBOfiberwasspunviaadry-jetandwet-spinningtechnique.ThemechanicalpropertyandthethermalstabilityoftheDSPBOfiberweremeasured.ThewettingperformanceandsurfacefreeenergyoftheDSPBOfiberwereinvestigated.ItwasfoundthatthetensilestrengthoftheDSPBOfiberdecreasedwithincreasingcontentofSODBAinthemacromolecularchain,thetensilestrengthwas23.2cN/dtexand17.3cN/dtexrespectivelywith1mol%and3mol%SODBAincorporation,whiletheheatstabilityofDSPBO-1%keptalmostthesameasthatofPBO.FurthermorethecontactangleofDSPBOtowaterandalcoholgotmuchsmallerthanthatofPBO.ThesurfacefreeenergyofDSPBO-1%increasedupto48.67mJ/m2whichwas37.1%higherthanthevalueofPBOfiber.
