Ultra-HighMolecularWeightPolyethylene(UHMWPE)/MMTclaynanocompositessheetswerepreparedbymeansofgelprocesswithdifferentcontentsofUHMWPEandMMTusingparaffinoilassolvent.GooddispersionofMMTclayissuccessfullycarriedout.ThedispersionoftheMMTparticlesinUHMWPEareconfirmedbytransmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM),scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),differentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC)andmechanicaltesting.Thedispersedclayparticlesinthenanocompositesheetprovidegoodthermalandmechanicalproperties.ComparedwithpureUHMWPE,allthesenanocompositesshowenhancementofthemeltingtemperature(Tm)andthethermaldecompositiontemperature.Additionally,theincorporationofclayintotheUHMWPEnanocompositessignificantlyimprovesthemechanicalpropertiesofthesematerials,i.e.theresultsobtainedfortensilestrengthandelongationindicatethattheUHMWPE/MMTishigherthanthatofthepureUHMWPE.
