Hierarchicalpolymercompositesincorporatedwithinorganicnanoparticles(NPs)haveattractedmuchattentionduetotheirflexibledesignintermsofcontrollingsize,particledensity,andspatiallocationandefficientfabricationofnovelfunctionalmaterials.SelectivelocalizationanddistributionofNPsinpolymermatrixisoneofthemostimportantfactorswhichisdecisivefortheirpropertiesandapplications.Wewillintroduceasimple,yetversatilemethodtocontrolthelocationofnanoparticleswithinworm-likeblockcopolymermicellesbydirectedsupramolecularassembly.Typically,twokindsofhomopolymerligandsweregraftedonthesurfaceofAuNPsthroughaligandexchangeroute-athiolend-functionalpolystyrene(PS-SH)andapoly(4-vinylpyridine)(P4VP-SH).ThemodifiedNPsweredissolvedinchloroformtogetherwithPS-PVPand3-n-pentadecylphenol(PDP)whichcanformcomb-coilsupramoleculePS-PVP(PDP)zandfurtherself-assembleintohierarchicalstructures.ThelocationoftheAuNPscanbetailoredfromthecentertotheinterfaceofPSandP4VP(PDP)domainsofthesupramoleculesbyvaryingtheratioofPSandP4VPbrushesonNPssurface.Isolatedworm-likemicelleswithincorporatedAuNPswerefinallyobtainedbydisassemblyofthesupramolecule.EffectoftheAuNPssize,volumefractionofAuNPs(pNP)added,andsupramolecularsystemonthemorphologyofhybridmicellesanddistributionofNPshasbeensystematicallyinvestigated.ThesehybridmicelleswithcontrollablelocalizationofAuNPsmayextendtheapplicationsofhybridmicellesandwillfindpotentialapplicationsinoptical,microelectronicdevicesanddrugdeliverysystem.
