Maleic-anhydridegraftedlinearlow-densitypolyethylenecopolymers(LLDPE-g-MAH)withhighgraftingdegreeandlowgelcontentweresynthesizedbylowermolecularweightlinearlow-densitypolyethylene(LLDPE)andsolid-phasegraftingtechnology.Then,LLDPE-g-MAHwasusedasacompatibilizertoprepareLLDPE/talccomposites.ThecompatibilizationofLLDPE-g-MAHenhancestheexfoliationanddispersionoftalcinLLDPEmatrix,andimprovestheinterfacialadhesionbetweentalclayersandLLDPE.TheadditionofLLDPE-g-MAHandtalcdoesnotchangethecrystalstructureofLLDPE,buttheirheterogeneousnucleationincreasesthecrystalsize,meltingpoint(Tm)andcrystallizationtemperature(Tc)ofLLDPEincomposites.Astheloadingcontentoftalcisupt030%,TmandTcofLLDPEincompositesdecreasesubsequently.SincetalclayersandthegelsinLLDPE-g-MAHhavetheprohibitiontothediffusionofcompositemelts,degreeofcrystallinityandcrystallizationrateofLLDPEincompositesdecreaseobviously.Additionally,theuniformly-dispersedtalclayershavethereinforcementtoLLDPEmatrix,leadingtotheincreasingintensilestrengthofthecomposite.Andimpactstrengthofthecompositewith2.5wt%ofLLDPE-g-MAHand20wt%oftalcincreasesby36%from17.7kj/rr120fLLDPE.Itisbecausethedispersionoftalcismulti-scalefromnanotomicrosize.Thelayer-by-layerstructureoftalccanbeexfoliated,leadingtoabsorbthefractureenergyandtoughentheLLDPEmatrix.
