Theparticulateswithanaerodynamicdiameter≤2.5ym(PM2.5)anditsextractscaninducemanyhumandiseasescl-3].So,thereisagreatneedforthedevelopmentoffiltrationtechnologiestopreventharmfulnanoparticlesaffectinghumanhealth.Oneofthemostvalidmethodsofremovingparticlesfromagasstreamisviafibrousfilters.Accordingtofiltrationtheoriesc4],thesmallerdiameteroffibersleadstobetterfiltrationefficiency.Inthisstudy,poly(vinylalcohol)(PVA)nanofiberswithdiametersofca.100nmandpolylacticacid(PLA)nanofiberswithdiametersofca.500nmwerepreparedbyelectrospinning.Thenon-wovenpolypropylene(PP)fabricswithdifferentdiameterswereusedassubstrates.Differentcompositepatternsofelectrospunnanofibersmatsandnon-wovenPPfabricsweredesignedtoobtainbetterfiltrationproperties.ThemonodispersesolidNaCIaerosolswithanumbermediandiameterof75+20nmwereusedasdustsourceinfiltrationtest.Thisdiameterisclosedtothemostpenetratingparticlesize(MPPS)forfinenanofibersc5].Theresultsshowedthatthemulti-layerarrangementofnanofibersmatscanachievehighfiltrationefficiency(upto99.95%).Thatwascomparabletohighefficiencyparticulateair(HEPA)filtersbutwithmuchhigherqualityfactorandlessmass.Wealsotestedthefiltrationefficiencyofthecompositefiltermediainrealpollutedatmosphere.Anditshowedhighfiltrationefficiency.
