Cellulose,akindofpolysaccharidesproducedbygreenplantsandsomekindsofbacteria,hasplentyofadvantages,suchasrenewability,biocompatibilityandoutstandingmechanicalproperties[l].Duetotheinfluencesofcomplexhydrogenbondsnetworks,amphipathyofrepeatunitsandotherunclearreasons,cellulosecanhardlydissolveincommonsolvents,andalso,notmeltduringheatingtodegradationtemperature,whichmadethisfantasticmaterialverydifficulttoutilize[2].Thediscoveryanddevelopmentofthoseeffectiveenvironmentallyfriendlysolventsystems,suchasionicliquids,NaOH/thiourea/ureaandNMMO.H209bringconsiderableprogressincellulosetextileindustrybywetspinning,andalsomakeitpossibletoproducevarietiesoffunctionalcellulosemembranes,gelsandcomposites[3].Comparingwiththewetprocessing,thermalmoldingismorevaluabletechnique.However,fewsignificantbreakthroughoncellulosethermoprocessingwasreportedtillnow[4].Inthiswork,ionicliquid,BmimCIwasusedasplasticizertoimprovethethermalprocessibilityofcellulose.Plasticizedcellulosefilmswerepreparedwithhotcompoundingandcompressionmolding.Glasstransitionbehavioroftheplasticizedcellulosewasinvestigatedbydifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC).Theglasstransitiontemperature(Tg)ofpurecellulose,whichcannotbemeasuredexperimentally,wasestimatedtobe470KbyfittingtheTgvaluesofdifferentsampleswithmodifiedGordon-Taylor/Kelley-Buecheequation.ThedeviationofTgcurvefromtheoreticalcurvewithsinglecrystallinitydegreeindicatedthecellulosecrystalwasdisrupted.TheBmimCIenhancedthemobilityofcellulosechainsegments,resultinginimprovedcalenderabilityandfluidityofcellulose.
